Executive Search and Interim Leadership
Hardwick-Day conducts selective searches for chief enrollment officers and other leadership positions. A second service aggressively recruits and/or develops internal candidates for financial aid director. Hardwick-Day principals serve as interim enrollment management, admission, and financial aid leaders. The firm also develops customized training and mentoring for new enrollment, admissions, and financial aid leaders.
Search: Chief Enrollment Officers
Hardwick-Day assists colleges and universities in the identification, recruitment, and selection of senior-level enrollment officers. Each year the firm selectively takes on several searches, cases where Hardwick-Day principals are uniquely suited to help and where we have an intimate familiarity with the needs and interests of the college or university. Current Searches
Each year Hardwick-Dayworks with only a few colleges and universities in the process of searching for new senior leadership for enrollment. Within the past 18 months we have successfully completed searches for Gustavus Adolphus College (Tom Crady, VP for Enrollment), the Columbus College of Art and Design (Jonathan Lindsay, VP for Enrollment), Hollins University (Stefanie Niles, VP for Enrollment) and Whittier College (Fred Pfursich, VP for Enrollment). Search: Financial Aid Directors
Financial Aid Executives, always crucial to the successful recruitment and student life on campus, have come to fill a strategic role. Directors are now required to understand and manage not only the arcane world of financial aid, but also the increasingly sophisticated role that aid strategy plays in delivering a class in terms of numbers, but a class with a particular set of characteristics that reflect strategic enrollment goals. Many colleges struggle to fill these key positions. More...
Interim Leadership: Enrollment and Admissions
When a college or university finds itself in between enrollment or admission leaders, Hardwick-Day principals can step into the breach. In addition to ensuring that operations proceed as needed, they can take advantage of opportunities for improvements inherent in any change of leadership. Hardwick-Day principals have served as interim leaders for the colleges and universities listed below. For more information, please contact Jim Day.

Interim Leadership: Financial Aid
David Busse and Herald Johnson have nearly 75 years of combined experience working in financial aid offices, much of that time at the director level. Since “retiring,” both David and Herald have filled interim financial aid leadership positions, sometimes on a week’s notice. A few of the places at which they’ve pinch hit include St. Mary’s College in Indiana, St. John’s College in Annapolis, the University of Portland, and the California Institute of Technology. More...
