Search: Chief Enrollment Officers

Hardwick-Day collaborates with Academic Search to assist colleges and universities in the identification, recruitment, and selection of senior-level enrollment officers. Academic Search was the first and remains the principal consulting firm conducting executive searches for college and university presidents, provosts, and academic deans. This year, Academic Search expanded its search services to include all members of the campus leadership team.

To provide an equivalent networking capability as well as the operating expertise and experience required for successful chief enrollment officer searches, Academic Search affiliates with two Hardwick-Day principals, Jim Day and Carol Stack. Together, they bring more than 50 years of high-level experience in admissions, financial aid, college finance, and higher education marketing and public policy—more than half of that in senior roles on campuses. This affiliation continues the Academic Search commitment to affiliating with search consultants who had extensive, successful administrative experience in higher education. Both Jim and Carol have extensive search experience, in both consulting and staff roles, for a variety of positions.

A hallmark of the Academic Search approach to presidential searches is an extensive pre-search consultation with university stakeholders. Similarly, Hardwick-Day begins an enrollment search with a thorough operational assessment of the enrollment program. This assessment, conducted over two or three days, goes far beyond eliciting campus views of what characteristics would be most valuable in a new chief enrollment officer.  This pre-search assessment determines, in great detail, how well institutional investments in the enrollment operation are optimized and how results and execution compare to best practices nationally. It provides specific guidance for the skills and experience needed in a new chief enrollment officer, as well as a blue print for what the operation needs to work on during and after the search to deliver the class.
