Graduation Rates and Retention

Date: 2/29/2008

Dear Reader:

As you may know, Hardwick-Day grew out of the work I did putting together the public policy analysis program at the Minnesota Private College Council, which included an assertive approach to differentiating private colleges from tax-subsidized state institutions on academic performance measures.

I thought you might be interested to see this MPCC article (PDF), which provides a great example of how a state association (or other consortium) can impart information and cast comparisons more effectively and comfortably than individual colleges and universities.

Grad rates are where private institutions shine, and why retention should be a priority for admissions professionals. Hardwick-Day has just completed a concise paper we call Retention for Smarties which will give you the data, the research on what works, and words of wisdom from some of your peers.

Best regards,

Jim
