Lee Johnson has worked in-depth with more than a dozen colleges and college consortia. His work involves assessing admissions operations, mentoring new admissions directors, designing institutional research studies, and serving as interim leader of admissions programs.
Since joining Hardwick~Day in 1999, Lee has served as interim director at California Lutheran University, Pacific Lutheran University, and Saint Mary’s University.
For the Lutheran Educational Conference of North America (LECNA), Lee coordinated Hardwick~Day’s Comparative Alumni Research study to assess differences in undergraduate experiences and life outcomes across the higher education spectrum. See how LECNA—with 42 member colleges in the US and Canada—uses the research to further its members’ mission “to be an informed voice of Lutheran higher education and an active and effective standard-bearer for American church-related higher education.” |

Lee was director of admissions at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota for 16 years. There, he used research to address enrollment challenges, increasing Concordia’s freshmen classes to an average of nearly 800 students, and making it one of the largest private colleges in the Midwest. Lee also worked “in the admissions trenches” for a total of 13 years at St. Olaf College, Aurora University, and Dana College.
Lee was chair of the Visibility Committee of the Minnesota Private College Council for five years. During his tenure, the council’s 16 member colleges collaborated on research-driven public relations initiatives designed to increase applications, corporate and foundation contributions, and funding for a state grant program.
Lee earned his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from St. Olaf College. In the spring of his senior year, Lee asked his advisor, “Dr. Hong, what is it that you do with a philosophy degree?” The reply: “What can’t you do?” Lee’s career has proved Dr. Hong correct. |
